How Getting Grants For Buying A Home Can Help Save You Cash
If you are interested in getting grants for buying a home, then this page can help you find any information you might be looking for.
Hopefully you have already read my article on How To Buy A House so that you can be fully prepared when making a purchase.
I will mention that most of the grants for buying a home apply only to people who already own homes.
While you may think this is not relevant to you, because you are still in the process of purchasing your home, you will find that this information will be very relevant to you in the near future, so I suggest you soak up what you can.
Grants For Buying A Home That You Need To Know About
This grant can help you save money on your property taxes, and unlike most of the other grants here, there are no blatant special requirements (Such as having to be over 65 years old etc.) so most people will qualify.
This grant is for people who are 65 or older, have disability allowance, or are a Veteran or spouse of a veteran who participated in World War I, II, or the Korean War.
The Retroactive Grant is if you missed the deadline (December 31st) of the previous years Basic Grant. You can submit a written request to get an extension on the December 31st deadline.
The Multiple Grant is for owners of Apartments, Co-op Buildings, and Housing Society buildings.
Make sure you click on the links above, which will take to the Canadian Government website, explaining how you can be eligible for all of these grants for buying a home, and how you can apply for them.
Applying For Grants
One thing I think you should remember is that you need to qualify for each grant at the time you apply for them.
So don't go applying for a grant when you are 64, saying you will be 65 when you think they will get the form. It's a bad idea, so stay away from that type of logic!
There are a few forms and faqs that I think you should be aware of.
The first is Some Explanatory Notes provided by the Canadian Government. This PDF file can help you understand more about the grants you are applying for.
The second is the Home Owner Grant Forms Page, once again on the Canadian Government website. This page contains all the forms you might need when applying for a Grant.
With those two resources, I feel you will be able to get some money back from the government and take advantage of their grants.
